Who I am

I am a member of Ubuntu Kylin Team since 2014. I'm also PPU and Debian Maintainer.

My Ubuntu story

When I was in college, I get to know Linux. Untill then, I acknowledged except windows Operating System, there are other OS in this world. It showed me the way to a marvelous world. At the final year of my school learning, I noticed Ubuntu Kylin, the official flavour of Ubuntu, was looking for candidates. So I made up my mind to join this team and devoted to it. Now, I have been working with Ubuntu/Ubuntu Kylin for 5 years.

My involvement

During my work in Ubuntu Kylin, I took part in the development of unity7, unity8 and UKUI, release work of all versions of Ubuntu Kylin. Developed and maintained ubuntu kylin packages such as ubuntu-kylin-wizard, kylin-greeter, ubuntukylin-default-settings, ukui-session-manager and so on. In the mean time, I am a super forum host in Ubuntu Kylin Community. I answered lots of questions asked by users, attended many community activities as well. I have got the PPU rights for ukui-menu, ukui-session-manager, ukui-indicators, ukui-control-center, ukui-desktop-environment, peony.

Examples of my work / Things I'm proud of

1. UKUI

2. Other Development

3. Spread Ubuntu/Ubuntu Kylin

  • Organize the Ubuntu Kylin forum, help users solve the problems they faced when using Ubuntu/Ubuntu Kylin, replied 1600+ posts so far.

Areas of work

Now I’m working on developing UKUI and maintaining all the kylin packages with other members.

Things I could do better

Improve my English and More communication with ubuntu team.

Plans for the future

Accomplish the work of Ubuntu Kylin 20.04 with plan and goal.

General

What I like least in Ubuntu

Some wikis are outdated and not available in other languages.

handsome_feng is responsible for the packaging and maintenance of the UKUI project. He works very well and attentively. --ZhangChao

Jack Yu

handsome_feng is the core developer of Ubuntu Kylin team. He is responsible for packaging and maintenance of all packages developed by Ubuntu Kylin team, including UKUI packages. He has been working on this for more than 4 years and done very good work. He cooperated with Aron Xu to upload UKUI packages into Ubuntu and Debian Archieve. --Jack Yu

Maclin

handsome_feng has been devoted to Ubuntu Kylin project for years since its beginning. His work involves most aspects of Ubuntu Kylin distribution and community, especially in the recent two years. However, his most important and time consuming work is developing and maintenance of Ubuntu Kylin related packages, such as unity, UKUI, youker series apps, etc. He is also a studious, conscientious and trustworthy colleague. --maclin

Anthony Wong

I worked with Feng on various things in Ubuntu Kylin. Although I don't upload packages for him, he had done some great work for Ubuntu over the years. He has improved and learnt a lot since he first joined the project. One of his most prominent work is to make the launcher be able to move to screen bottom. It is not a trivial work and I saw him worked with Marco a lot to make it happen. --Anthony Wong

Endorsements

Aron Xu

I've sponsored most of Feng's Ubuntu Kylin packages. He is quite responsible for reacting on requests about the packages, and over the time he's capable of updating those packages without modifications. I would encourage him to release often and upload often, so that he could get more control over the pace. --Aron Xu

Here's from the Sponsorship Miner:

Specific Experiences of working together

General Feedback

The quality of handsome_feng's packages are good. I have had very little hesitations in sponsoring most of them; he is a skilled packager that should absolutely have this upload access. He cares a lot about Ubuntu Kylin's packages, and when corrections do need to be made, he has the right attitude about doing so.

Areas of Improvement

There are some packages which I have had to give back to handsome_feng after being asked to sponsor them due to particulars like copyright notices which weren't complete (not that I'm perfect myself...), or a Lintian flag which he has missed. But handsome_feng is very quick to correct any mistakes he may make, and ensure that these same mistakes are not present in any further uploads.

I believe that handsome_feng would be a fine addition to the team. -- tsimonq2 2018-04-03 03:11:16

Dan Streetman

General feedback

I've sponsored a few uploads, all to Eoan. In general I feel he is a good packager and cares for the quality of ubuntu-kylin uploads, and believe he is ready to upload directly for any of the ubuntu-kylin packages.

Specific Experiences of working together

I've sponsored these packages:

Areas of Improvement

In some of the uploads I sponsored for him, he had tried to find a sponsor for some time without success, and so was into a freeze period and required an exception. These delays were certainly not his fault, and clearly shows that being granted upload permissions for ubuntu-kylin would remove the delays that lead to requesting freeze exceptions.

However some of the uploads I sponsored were requested during the freeze period, and I would encourage him to try to have any UI or feature changes done first, before those freeze periods start.
